Did you know that some form of April Fool’s day has been celebrated for centuries across many different cultures, but no one is really sure where or when it began? April Fools day is celebrated on April 1st and is a day for playing pranks and having fun! I love a good prank as much as the next girl, so today, I will talk about some of my favorite (friendly) tricks to play on your kids this year!  These are harmless pranks that will get a laugh this April Fool’s Day!

Balloon Avalanche-

This one involves a bunch of balloons, a garbage bag or some paper streamers, and your kiddo’s bedroom door. Tape the garbage bag or paper streamers across the front of your child’s bedroom door to form a pocket. Fill the pocket with balloons. When your child wakes up in the morning and opens their bedroom door, the balloons will drop on them in a balloon avalanche!

Bed Swap-

This prank works best if your children are small. All you have to do is wait until your kids are asleep, pick them up, put them in their siblings’ bed, and put their sibling in their bed. The confusion upon waking in the wrong room is hilarious!

Stuffed Animal Parade-

When your kids go to bed for the night, grab all their stuffed animals and line them up in an animal parade down the hallway. If you want to go all out, you can hang them from the ceiling, put them in funny positions, or stick silly signs on them to give your kiddos a good giggle.

Whoopee Cushion-

This is an oldie, but it’s a classic for a reason. Kids think flatulence is funny (and so do most adults, if we’re being honest). Grab a Whoopee Cushion, place it on your child’s chair (under a seat cushion) and get ready for some good laughs.

Fake Poo-

This is another bathroom humor prank.  Grab some fake poo (or make your own), and then set it up where your child is sure to find it.  They will be completely grossed out, and you’ll enjoy every minute of it!

Honey, I Shrunk The Kids-

This one is a great prank for little kids! All you do is purchase outfits and shoes for your kids that are one or two sizes too big.  When they get dressed in the morning, you pretend that they shrunk! The bonus is that eventually, kids will grow into the bigger-sized clothing, so just save the items for later, and they won't go to waste!

Frozen Cereal-

The night before April Fools, pour a bowl of cereal and milk, stick a spoon in it, and put it in the freezer.  When your tired little one asks for their breakfast in the morning, hand them the frozen cereal and watch the hilarious confusion commence!

Jello Juice-

This is another prank that requires prep the night before. Grab a pack of instant jello and follow the package instructions. Fill your child’s favorite cup with the jello mixture and place a straw in it. Put it in the fridge to set up overnight, and enjoy watching your child try to drink their juice in the morning!

Googly Eye Fridge-

Grab a bag of googly eye stickers in various sizes from your local craft store.  Place the eyes on all of the items in your refrigerator. When you’re kiddos wake up in the morning, they’ll be surprised to find all the food looking back at them when they open the refrigerator door!

Donut Seeds-

This one is a cute and funny prank to do with your little kids. Grab a box of Cheerios and pour some into a plastic bag or envelope, then print off a label (here’s a good one) and put the label on your bag or envelope.  Fill a cup or small pot with crumbled oreo cookies or chocolate cake to look like soil, and have your kiddos plant their seeds.  Later in the day, or the following morning, grab a skewer, stick a donut on it, and put it in the pot so your kids can enjoy the donuts they grew!

Kitchen Sprayer Prank-

This one is another popular prank, especially if your kids are older. Place a clear rubber band around the kitchen sink sprayer (your sink sprayer must be the type that needs to be squeezed for water to spray out for this prank to work). Ask your child to get a glass of water or wash something in the sink and wait for them to get a cold, wet surprise!

The Ultimate Water Fight-

This one is a fun way for all of your family members to get in on the April Fool’s Day fun! Grab a couple of buckets or pails, fill them with water balloons, set them up around your yard with water guns next to them. Make sure there is a setup for every member of the family.  The game begins with a race to your preferred setup, and then the water fight is on! Your kids will have a blast soaking each other (and you) with water balloons and squirt guns! You’ll all end up drenched, but you’ll have a great time!

No matter what you choose to do to celebrate this April Fool’s Day, remember to keep it kind, keep it fun, and enjoy your kids while they’re young! Making good memories for our kids is one of the most joyful parts of being a parent, and I know other parents like me find so much satisfaction in making their kids laugh and seeing them have a good time! So choose one of these pranks (or more!) and enjoy your child’s laughter this April Fool’s Day!
